The concept for Professional Fit Testing Services began in the spring of 2008 when a change in federal Fit Testing requirements cost all healthcare facilities to begin respirator fit testing all employees who might have patient contact. Later that same year, the world faced the threat of the H5N1 “bird flu“ virus in Asia which put Fit Testing in the high gear. H5N1 was predicted to be on course to cause a worldwide pandemic.
My role at the time was a corporate nurse manager of the employee occupational health division of a large healthcare facility. As a member of the corporate pandemic disaster planning team I was tasked with creating a plan to quickly fit test the clinical employees of our 3 hospitals and 200 physician practices.
I began scouring the landscape for an organization that could come in and help us fit test our 5000+ employees.
No one would return my call or even consider it. Thus the idea was born for a traveling fit test company that could send trained respirator fit test staff to employers and fit test at the worksite for both health care and industrial clients.
The idea was written off by many. In spite of the negativity we pushed forward and created PFTS.
Since that time in 2008, PFTS has helped hundreds of companies and Fit Tested thousands of employees “at their work site”. We provide an economical and efficient
solution for companies and organizations requiring quick, thorough and effective fit testing.
